Danish Men

Firstly apologies if youre a Danish guy and not like this, I am well known for my brash generalisations. When I was abroad I missed Danish guys; their little boy cheekiness, their confidence, their humour, but now I realise they are all a lot alike; selfish, arrogant and childish.

Take this guy Martin I was supposed to go out with on sunday, no apologies just a lame excuse:

"Jeg var ude fredag med firmaet til kl. meget sent.. Ude at spille golf i 6 timer lørdag, og i byen igen til kl. 0730 søndag morgen... Stod først op igår kl 1900.. Var ude og spise Burger med en Kammerat og tog hjem til mig og så fodbold.. Gik i seng igen ved en 2230 tiden.. Så sov Sgu hele dagen væk..!! "

For those of you non danes translates as "

I was out Friday with work until very late..Out and played golf for 6 hours on saturday, and went out on the town until 7.30am sunday morning...First got up yesterday 7pm..Went out and ate burger with a mate and went home, watched football..Went to bed around 10.30pm..So slept the whole frickin day away!!"

Oh well thats ok then..as long as you were drunk our plans dont matter and you have no reason to sms me and apologise or let me know whats going on!?

Im not that upset, I mean I hardly know the bloke but it is exactly what Christian did on our first date, and seems like standard behaviour out here, and even more worrying its seems acceptable.

Now I dont care about any of it except the not letting me know part.. I reckon thats downright disrespectful...from a guy, a girl anyone.

One things for sure, an aussie a. wouldnt miss a date hed made and b. if he did hed either make up a good excuse or be straight on the phone to apologise.

well, I think, as you make your bed, so you must lie in it: so if you miss a date that's the way you will be treated. I hope it will never happen to me anymore.
But being Italian lost in Denmark and wondering whether to stay or to leave I got struck by a sentence in one of your late posts where you say that Denmark and Holland are amazing if compared to the rest of Europe. I would like to know the reason for this opinion from someone I have in such a good esteem...

Thank you Belzebù:) Well to me Holland and Denmark are smaller, there are less people and things like trains and buses work on time and are not constantly cancelled or delayed. In Denmark the sun shines more and the skies are blue more often. In Holland the people are friendlier, they look at you when they talk to you and seem happier in general. Its just my opinion. But on the whole europe is totally different and far less friendly than asia/australasia. I recommend though that you dont take my word for it and go off and travel. The thing about being lost in Denmark, if you are unhappy and dont know why go out travel and come back again, then you will know why! Hope his helps :)

I concur my dear...... Aussies do fob you off and not phone and never turn up.... Or atleast in my experience they do... Females of course, not men....

chin up....

Thank you for the reply, Angel. Yes, I agree with that things work better here.
I am no unhappy in Denmark at the moment, and I would stay. But I have a job offer now in Italy and so I wonder whether this is really the place for me. I suspect it is not things that work that keep you attached... Friends might be more important, though, I am not sure of anything. You are right, I should travel more. But in the meantime you are the best source I rely on to know what is outside Europe! Continue telling us, you are lovely!! Thanks!

Just came across your post by chance, and the same thing happened to me! I was supposed to meet up with my ex boyfriend- his idea to meet up btw and it would have been the first time we'd seen each other for 10 months, since i'd left DK) and his excuse was that he had gotten really drunk and lost his phone...

That said, I hope you haven't given up on the danes!! I'm and aussie and REALLY looking forward to my next trip there, and have not had any other danes act like that. They have mostly been shy and sweet and with a good sense of humor.

I've heard that they are reluctant to apologise but I think that its to do with their culture, apologising and saying they like you etc. is something they do reluctantly (for want of a better word), but they really truly mean it when they do... whereas here in oz, people say sorry or let's hang out some time and most of the time its just something we say but don't totally mean!

Enjoy them while you can, and it's true that tall danes have big feet ;) hahaha

I've been browsing online more than 2 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be much more useful than ever before.
